青い森から、繋ぐ
TRIBUTE FROM GREEN FOREST

津田が一万年以上も続いたとされる縄文時代に関心を寄せ，フィールドリサーチに訪れた青森県の三内丸山遺跡で，重要文化財でもある通称「縄文ポシェット」と呼ばれる縄文時代に使われていた編籠に出会い，それを現代の我々へと繋げるプロジェクトへと発展させたことは，これまでの津田の活動を知っているものならば，なんら不思議はなく，あの写真家が，また，時間を旅する新たなタイムマシーンを引き寄せたのだと，そう思うだろう。

ただ，今回，いつもと違うのは，津田はプロジェクトを展開するにあたり，吉田カバンとの協働を行なった。青森で出会った縄文時代のポシェットを現代に繋ぎ，当時の人々の営みと我々の現在との関係性を，もう一度，見つめ直すための出会いがそこにはあった。

「約5500年前の縄文ポシェットを初めて見た瞬間は，忘れることができません。細かく見れば人の手に依って編まれた形状が十分見て取れた。僕はフィールドワークを通して，今まで様々な物に出会ってきたけれど，一つのモノと向き合い，その時代とか地域とかではなく，一個人の気配みたいなものを感じられた時に，初めてその場所に立つ事が出来たなという実感が湧いてくる。その瞬間，5500年前の時間と現代が近いものとなり，繋がっているのだとあらためて気づかされます。」

After being drawn to the culture of the Jomon period, an era said to have spanned more than ten thousand years, Tsuda visited the Sannai-Maruyama site in Aomori on a fieldwork and encountered Jomon pochette, the woven basket that was registered as an Important Cultural Property. In light of his previous work, it came as no surprise that this remain of ancient culture led him to undertake another project that resonates with our modern society. It’s as though the photographer has once again used a time machine to travel back in time.

One point of difference is that this project was developed in collaboration with Yoshida & Co., Ltd. The project led both parties to re-evaluate the relationship between our lives and those of our ancient ancestors through the recreation of the pochette in a modern context.

“I cannot forget the moment when I saw the Jomon pochette, which had been made about 5,500 years ago. I could still clearly see the handiwork of the person who had woven it. I see many things during my fieldwork, but when a trace of a person – not just the distant scent of the period or region, surfaces on an object – I feel as though I’m finally at the destination. When that occurred with the pochette, the flow of time from 5,500 years ago was connected to the present day, making me realize that ancient time had kept streaming forward without interruption.”
