IHEYA・IZENA

沖縄本島北西部に位置する二つの小島、伊平屋島と伊是名島。
津田は四年前に拠点を九州へ移しましたが、それは南方へと繋がる道を開くためだったのかもしれません。数年間をかけ二つの島を訪れ、島に住む人々との交流を重ねながら、暮らしの中に潜む小さな行いに目を向けていきました。それらは、天を仰ぐクバの茂み、お盆に先祖を迎え・送りをする人々、供物が捧げられた聖域での祈り、古から受け継がれてきた神事に見る神人と子供の姿、就学のため春には島を離れるという少女の踊り、雨水の滴る月桃の花、風の岩からの 眺め…、という姿で現れてきました。

Two small islands, Iheya Island and Izena Island, are situated in the northwestern part of main island Okinawa.
Four years ago, Tsuda moved his base of residence to Kyushu, which might have been to open his way connecting him to the southern areas. He spent several years visiting the two islands, kept mingling with local people and directing his attention to small events lurked in people’s daily lives. His photos show the scenes: Kuba (Livistona chinensis) bushes turning upward to the sky, people welcoming and sending off spirits of ancestors at Bon festival, prayers at sacred areas where offerings are placed, kaminchu (priest of indigenous faiths serving god at rituals) and children at rituals handed down for generations from ancient times, a dance of a girl who was to leave the island in the spring to continue further schooling, shell ginger flowers with dripping rain drops, a view from Wind Rock, etc.
