写真家・板坂佳枝さんが6/26よりPOSTで開催される『Infinity Complex Landscape』（KEHRER Verlag）刊行記念の展覧会に合わせたトークイベントに、対談相手として登壇します。
【イベント概要】 「土地の声を通して見つめる世界」 旅を日常に生きる写真家が、土地の声を通して見つめる世界とは。体験から神話を乗り越え、表層を再構築し、新しいリアルを見ることは可能なのだろうか。という問いを持つ板坂が、旅やフィールドワークを通して消えゆくものを写してきた写真家・津田直氏と、その土地に立つことで感じてきたことを語り合います。

昨年12月、ネパールのムスタンにて撮影した写真集『LO』をNEUTRAL COLORSより刊行しました。

Tsuda traveled through the mountain ranges of the former Mustang Kingdom, a land unexplored, to capture the landscape. What is there is revealed through the cupola-shaped frame. Printed by NEUTRAL COLORS using multi-color risograph printing. The special edition is silkscreen printed on handmade Japanese paper mixed with lokta paper brought back from Nepal. The regular edition comes in a cardboard sleeve. The contribution is by Natsuki Ikezawa, a writer who has traveled to the region.

本シリーズは、
『LO』シリーズのランドスケープ作品は、
For the “LO” series, he traced the roots of Buddhism while traveling through the Mustang district in northern Nepal, where Tibetan Buddhist culture and traditions run deep. Over roughly a month, he traversed terrain at elevations of around 2,500 to 4,000 meters. When the air is clear, the 8,000-meter peaks of the Himalayas rise into full view, and the vast landscape conveys the depth of geological time and the grandeur of the natural world.
The landscape works in the “LO“ series are framed in a distinctive semicircular format, which Tsuda says grew out of the question, “Does a landscape need to be rectangular?” A certain feeling of buoyancy that stayed with him both in Nepal and after returning to Japan called to mind the view from a cupola (window of the type found at the top of a spacecraft or church tower), and it was this association that gave rise to the semicircular landscape. The resulting images, in which the upper edge of the field of vision seems cut off as if by the eaves of a roof, heighten the viewer’s awareness of the distance and relationship between themselves and the landscape before them. They may also echo the experience of ancient peoples in Nepal, looking out at the scenery through the mouth of a cave. （From the press release of “LO” exhibition at Taka Ishii Gallery Photography / Film)
